Once upon a time, there was a chocolate Labrador retriever puppy named, "Chocolate." He lived in an apartment building that he loved. It had a garden fit for a dog.He was owned by a teenage girl named Lizzy. Lizzy had blond hair and loved wearing summer dresses and sandals.
It was Springtime, and flowers were blooming everywhere. They were sparkling like green emeralds, red rubies, blue sapphires and silver diamonds, glittering like stars.
Chocolate was two months old. When Lizzy was taking Chocolate for his daily walk, Chocolate saw a squirrel. Chocolate knew it was bad to pull the leash out of his owners hands, so he let the squirrel go back into the huckleberry bushes.
Down the trail was a creek. Chocolate could hear the croaks of frogs and chirps of crickets. Then he heard a big splash. He sighed. It was just a frog leaping from lily pad to lily pad.
When they arrived home from their walk, Chocolate saw that Lizzy had a special surprise for him. There were red, blue, yellow, green and purple streamers hanging from the walls. There was even a little table in the middle of the room, with a puppy table cloth, and presents on it wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper and tied with beautiful, big bows.
Chocolate could not believe his eyes! "Here we are," said Lizzy. "I prepared a special surprise birthday party for you. It's your birthday today. Didn't you know that?" she said. Now Chocolate understood. But, where was the cake. Every birthday party needs cake!
He barked at Lizzy. "I know, you're asking me where the cake is," she said. "At this birthday party, I hid the cake in the kitchen because I want it to be an extra special surprise. I don't want you to see it." she continued. "And see those presents? They're from all your puppy friends. They'll be here any minute," she said. As she stopped talking, "DING-DONG!" The doorbell rang. "Our guests must be here already," Lizzy said. "Let's go see who it is," she continued.
"Look," said Lizzy as she opened the door. "It's Spot, and her owner Charles," she said. Chocolate jumped up yapping. He had known Spot since puppy preschool. Spot was his best friend in preschool.
"OK, how about we start the games right now. We can play on the puppy playground until everyone gets here," she said. Once they reached the playground, the two dogs sniffed the air. Everything smelled like dog bones. "We dyed the air so it smells like dog bones," Lizzy explained to Charles. As she spoke, "DING-DONG!" The puppies raced out of the playground to the door.
Then it rang again, "DING-DONG!" Lizzy opened the door. "Look, it's your old friend, Wag, and Thomas his owner. Now you can all go back to playing in the puppy playground," she said. Then, Chocolate followed by Spot, lastly Wag, tumbled running toward the puppy playground doors. "Why does it smell like dog bones?" barked Wag.
After playing for a while, "DING-DONG!" the loud doorbell rang again. Then, three times more -"DING-DONG, DING-DONG, DING-DONG!!!" More guests have arrived. Lizzy heard a yap outside the door. Wag, Chocolate and Spot raced to the door, knocking each other down. Lizzy said, "Oh look, it's Bear." Bear was an Australian shepherd. "And, look. His owner Rachel," said Lizzy, pointing to the girl next to Bear. The dogs all raced back to the playground, while Rachel, Thomas, Charles and Lizzy talked.
Again, after one hour, "DING-DONG!" Lizzy opened the door and the last guests stepped in. They were two cute chihuahua puppies named Chewy and Chicka, and their owner Kirsty.
The two little chihuahuas went to the table. All the guests had arrived. "Doggy-bone time," said Lizzy, as she passed out doggy bone pizza. She took out a tray with a white cake on it. The cake had a picture of Chocolate, Wag, Spot, Bear, Chewy and Chicka, made out of frosting and marshmallow.
When they were done eating, they made their own dog toys, and painted food bowls.
Finally, it was time to leave.
As they left, the dogs asked, "Chocolate, what did you wish for when blowing out the candles on your cake?" "It's a big secret," said Chocolate.
Now do you wonder what Chocolate wished for? I know - another birthday party!
